Our I-Quest “You, me, us together…What can we do to make a difference?” will take you on a journey to discover what you can do to have a positive impact on the people around you. This I-Quest will focus on random acts of kindness, and how a simple gesture can have a significant impact on another person's happiness.
A random act of kindness may be something as small as smiling at a stranger or as large as donating money to charity. However we feel that every act of kindness has the power to provide a person with a sense of acknowledgement, happiness, joy, confidence, can improve their mood and ultimately brighten up their day.
As a class lets come together and commit to giving an act of kindness to those around us each and every day and observe the positive impact this can have. We know you already spread kindness, so take this I-Quest as your official invitation to go above and beyond and step out of our comfort zone and spread random acts of kindness to your friends, family and even strangers.
We will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and think creatively.
Your act of kindness may not be appreciated or reciprocated every time, however this is a valuable learning experience as it will build resilience while encouraging you to think about some of the reasons why people are unwilling to acknowledge and appreciate your thoughtful deed.
You will begin to realise you have personal power to make positive change to those around you.
Click on the words 'RESILIENCE' and 'PERSONAL POWER' that are above to be taken to a definition of these terms.
We would now like you to take a moment to watch and then reflect on this You-Tube clip of a young girl who is around your age who used her personal power as an individual to stand up for what she believed in, and speak publicly about issues she felt were important.
We would like you to take a moment to think about how the thoughtful deeds of your family, friends, and strangers have made a difference in your life in terms of providing you with a sense of belonging, lifting your mood and improving your happiness. Think about how even the smallest acts of kindness have had an impact on you! Well you can become part of the circle of kindness; it begins with this I-Quest.
All you need to do is make a commitment to creating more kindness in your everyday life. Before we begin, take some time to reflect and write down all the kindness ideas and thoughtful deeds you can think of.
